The 13km of fortified walls are the defining feature of the old city. Start at the Torre del Reloj gate and walk the full circuit — it takes about an hour and gives you elevated views over the Caribbean and the city.

Avoid the large group tour boats — they're overcrowded. Ask your hotel to book a private lancha for 4–6 people instead. Costs about the same per head and gets you to better spots.
A 45-minute speedboat from the Muelle Turistico drops you at a coral island with impossibly clear water. Most tours (20–30 USD pp) include snorkeling gear and a fish lunch. Book at your hotel the evening before.
The neighborhood just outside the city walls has transformed into one of Latin America's best street art districts. Grab a coffee at any corner and wander — the murals cover entire blocks. Best before 11 AM before the heat sets in.
Cartagena's most famous ceviche spot. The tiger's milk ceviche and the coconut shrimp are both exceptional. Expect a wait — worth it.
The beach district south of the old city. Not Cartagena's most beautiful beach, but it's the closest and has the best beach club infrastructure. La Bonga del Sinú has good chairs and food.
