Wyoming, United States
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has 4,139 feet of vertical drop — the most in the continental United States — a 65% advanced/expert terrain rating, and a tram that has been running to the 10,450-foot summit of Rendezvous Mountain since 1966. The resort is not for beginners; it is for people who have been skiing for years and want to find out what they're made of. Corbett's Couloir (the famous cliff drop accessed by a 20-foot air off the cornice, or a hike-around) is the benchmark, but the mountain has 100+ named runs that are challenging by any standard. The town of Jackson (population 10,000, elk everywhere, a genuine Western vibe that predates the luxury hotels) is 12 miles from the resort and has a museum-quality art scene (the National Museum of Wildlife Art, 14 galleries), one of the best bars in Wyoming (the Million Dollar Cowboy Bar), and access to Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone.

Jackson Hole Airport (JAC) is inside Grand Teton National Park — the only commercial airport in a national park in the US — with direct flights from major hubs (Delta from SLC and ATL; United from Denver; American from Chicago; seasonal direct from NYC, LA, Dallas). The airport is 8 miles from Teton Village and 13 miles from Jackson town; taxis and Uber are available. START Bus (free in winter) connects Jackson, Teton Village, and Wilson. Car rental at JAC is available but the resort shuttle and START Bus cover most needs. The Aerial Tram to Rendezvous Mountain summit runs year-round; in summer it's a hike and wildlife access vehicle, in winter it's the most efficient way to reach the expert terrain. Book lodging in Teton Village (ski-in/ski-out, premium) or Jackson town (character, lower prices, 12-mile resort shuttle).
