A restorative 5-day base in San Marcos La Laguna — sunrise yoga, traditional Mayan sauna (tuj), and guided meditations with volcano views. The wellness capital of Central America.
Las Pirámides is the most well-known retreat center and has its own moon cycle program. Las Águilas and La Fe are good mid-range guesthouses with lake views. Avoid weekends — the village gets busier.
San Marcos's dock faces west — you get the full sunset over the water directly in front. The village has several teachers offering guided group sessions (usually free or donation).
Most guesthouses in San Marcos offer morning yoga. Outdoor sessions facing the lake with Volcán Atitlán as the backdrop are common. Check notice boards for community classes (often donation-based).
A traditional sweat lodge ceremony practiced by local Mayan families. Ask your guesthouse to arrange one — it's an intimate experience, not a tourist performance. Bring water and a change of clothes.

The best view of the lake is from the Indian Nose ridge above San Juan La Laguna. Leave at 4:30 AM from San Marcos by boat, hike 45 minutes in the dark, and watch the sun rise over three volcanoes. Guides available in San Juan (~100 GTQ).
The water is clean and cool (around 18°C year-round). Many guesthouses have private docks. Morning is the calmest — afternoon winds (los xocomiles) can make the lake choppy.
Several families in San Marcos offer traditional Guatemalan cooking classes — making pepián, tortillas, and tamales. Eat what you cook.
