Two days — NoDa arts district, craft beer tour, Mint Museum, and the Whitewater Center.
NoDa (North Davidson) is Charlotte's original arts district — murals, galleries, the oldest craft brewery in Charlotte (NoDa Brewing), and live music on the weekends. South End is the newer nightlife and food zone along the light rail corridor.
North Davidson Street has 20+ galleries and studios in repurposed industrial buildings. The monthly NoDa Art Crawl (first Friday) brings most studios open simultaneously. Even outside crawl night, the weekend street scene is active. Start at Neighborhood Theatre for the current event schedule.
Small plates and creative cocktails in NoDa — the most consistently excellent restaurant in the neighborhood. The lamb tacos and the oxtail dumplings are the menu highlights. Busy on weekends; bar seating is first-come.
The LYNX Blue Line runs from UNC Charlotte through Uptown to I-485 in the south. $2.20 per ride, $6.60 all-day pass. Useful for airport to Uptown, and for hitting South End without parking. A car is needed for the Whitewater Center and anything north of Uptown.
Mint Museum Uptown in the morning for the craft and design collection, then the U.S. National Whitewater Center in the afternoon for outdoor activities.
The USNWC is a legit outdoor activity complex on the Catawba River — whitewater rafting (Olympic-caliber course), kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, zip lines, and a climbing wall. Day passes cover most activities. Good for all fitness levels. 15 minutes west of Uptown.
Plaza Midwood has the highest density of independent restaurants and bars in Charlotte — less corporate than South End, more eclectic than NoDa. Thomas Street Tavern for local bar food, Midwood Smokehouse for NC BBQ, and Eat Gastrobar for creative American.
