The essential Columbus weekend: gallery hop through the Short North, explore the brick-paved streets of German Village, and spend a morning at one of America's top-ranked zoos. This is the city at its best — walkable, local, and genuinely fun.
Start in the Short North Arts District along High Street for coffee, galleries, and independent shops. Afternoon: walk the Scioto Mile and Bicentennial Park along the river. Evening: dinner in the Short North, then drinks at one of the rooftop bars.
A Short North institution. The biscuits and pastries are worth the wait. Order at the counter and grab a window seat if you can.
The Short North runs along High Street north of downtown and hosts galleries, boutiques, and some of Columbus's best restaurants. Weekend mornings are ideal — less crowded, coffee shops are open, and the street has real energy. The monthly Gallery Hop on the first Saturday draws the biggest crowds.
The riverfront trail connects downtown Columbus with good views of the skyline and connects to COSI if you want to duck in.
One of the best Italian spots in the Short North. Wood-fired pizzas and pasta consistently excellent. Make a reservation — it fills up on weekends.
Spend the morning in German Village browsing the Book Loft and the brick-paved streets, then hit North Market for lunch.
One of the largest privately funded historic districts in the US. Wander Schiller Park, browse the labyrinthine Book Loft (32 connected rooms in a historic building), and walk the brick streets.
Columbus's original public market. Multiple vendors selling fresh produce, specialty foods, and ready-to-eat meals. Get lunch from multiple stalls and eat at the communal tables. Saturdays are the most lively.
Downtown and Short North parking is tight on weekends. Use garages on 4th or 5th St north of downtown. German Village has free street parking on the side streets.
