The world's largest Christmas store — 2.2 acres under one roof with 50,000 items, a replica Bavarian village, and 260 decorated Christmas trees. Year-round, not just seasonal. The outdoor display has 100,000 lights. Go in the morning before the tour buses hit. Even non-Christmas people find it genuinely impressive at scale.
Three must-buys on the way out: Frankenmuth Fudge Kitchen on Main Street (the peanut butter chocolate is the best), Willi's Sausage Company for Bavarian brats and summer sausage to take home, and if you didn't already get Bronner's ornaments, the monogramming station does them while you wait.
The original Frankenmuth all-you-can-eat chicken dinner — family-style platters of fried chicken, stuffing, buttered noodles, and bread. The Bavarian Inn has been doing this since 1888. The dining room seats 1,200 people. Go for lunch (opens at 11am) to beat the dinner rush. The chicken alone justifies the trip from Detroit.
The 1980 covered bridge over the Cass River is one of the most photographed spots in Michigan. Walk across and follow the riverwalk south — it passes behind the Bavarian Inn along a stretch of shaded river path. Ducks, willow trees, and a complete change of pace from the Main Street bustle.
