Three days in a private cabin surrounded by old-growth hemlock forest — morning hikes to sandstone caves and waterfalls, afternoon wine tastings at local vineyards, and evenings around the fire pit. Hocking Hills is one of the most genuinely romantic destinations within a day's drive of Columbus, Cleveland, or Cincinnati.
Drive in from Columbus or wherever, stop in Logan for groceries and wine, and get to your cabin before dark. Hocking Hills cabins are the experience — don't rush past them. If you arrive with enough daylight, Cedar Falls at sunset is one of the better views in Ohio.
If you arrive with 2+ hours of daylight, Cedar Falls is a 15-minute drive from the main cabin cluster. The 90-foot falls are most dramatic in late afternoon light. The access trail from the Cedar Falls parking lot is easy and flat — 15 minutes each way. One of those moments that makes the drive worth it.
Logan is the last significant grocery town before Hocking Hills. Hit the IGA or Kroger on US-33 for cabin groceries — local sausage, vegetables, breakfast provisions, and snacks. The Hocking Hills Winery is also in Logan and worth a wine stop. Don't count on finding supplies in the hills.

Get to Old Man's Cave before 9am on weekends. The gorge is legitimately beautiful in morning light and the crowds haven't arrived yet. Start at the upper parking lot and walk down through the cave system, past the Upper and Lower Falls, and into the gorge. The hemlock forest overhead creates a cathedral effect.
Hocking Hills Winery in Logan has been producing Ohio wines since 2001 — the style is approachable, the pours are generous, and the setting (a renovated barn with views of the surrounding hills) is right for the region. The sweet wines are the bestsellers but the dry whites are better. Call ahead on busy weekends.
The cabin fire pit is the best dinner option in Hocking Hills. Grill whatever you picked up in Logan — local brats, corn, potatoes. Open the Hocking Hills wine. If it's fall, this is as good as outdoor evenings get in Ohio.
Morning to the caves, easy afternoon, drive home. Ash Cave is accessible and spectacular — a reasonable final-morning hike before checkout.
If you're heading north and can detour through Amish Country, The Olde Dutch in Millersburg does a proper farm-style breakfast/brunch — homemade pies, egg dishes, local dairy, and Amish baked goods. It's 45 minutes north of Hocking Hills and worth the diversion for a memorable exit.
The most accessible major attraction in Hocking Hills — flat paved trail, 0.3 miles from parking to the cave. The 700-foot-wide horseshoe cave with a 90-foot ceiling is one of the most impressive geological features in Ohio. Early morning light in the cave is exceptional.
