Day one hits the Strip highlights efficiently. Day two drives 20 minutes west to Red Rock Canyon for sandstone hikes and Mojave desert views — the best antidote to 24 hours of casino air.
Hit the Strip efficiently — the fountains, the High Roller, and the Neon Museum before dinner. Save the energy for the hike tomorrow.
Hear me out. The In-N-Out on the Strip (near MGM Grand) has a line at midnight on weekends. A Double-Double Animal Style is , and it's genuinely one of the better meals you'll eat in Vegas dollar-for-dollar. Perfect pre-hike fuel if you're going to Red Rock tomorrow.
The world's tallest observation wheel (550 feet) takes 30 minutes per revolution. Go at sunset or after dark — the Strip view from the top at night is one of the signature Vegas experiences. Pods hold 40 people; buy a private pod for a group of 4–6 for the best experience. Located at the LINQ.
Leave by 7am. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is 17 miles from the Strip but feels like a different planet. Bring water — more than you think you need. The desert heat is real even in spring.
Two options depending on fitness. Calico Hills is a 2.5-mile loop through orange and red sandstone formations — easy, very photogenic, good for all fitness levels. Keystone Thrust is a 2.2-mile trail to a ridgeline with views across the Mojave and back toward the Strip. Both trailheads are off the first few stops on the Scenic Loop.
On the drive back from Red Rock, stop in Summerlin for Settebello — a certified Neapolitan pizzeria with a proper wood-fired oven. One of the best pizzas in Vegas, a complete contrast to the Strip, and exactly what you want after a morning of sandstone and desert heat.
After the hike, drive the one-way 13-mile Scenic Loop through the canyon. 13 numbered stops with short walk-outs. The Calico Viewpoint (Stop 2) and the Pine Creek Canyon overlook (Stop 10) are the best. Takes 60–90 minutes at a relaxed pace.
20–25 minutes from the Strip via Summerlin Pkwy west to Hwy 159. The Conservation Area charges /vehicle (covered by America the Beautiful pass). Get there before 8am on weekends — the parking lots near the best trailheads fill by 9am in spring and fall.
