The best day trip in the Caribbean. A catamaran to one of the most beautiful islands in the world, a natural pool full of starfish, and a beachside Dominican lunch. Most resorts offer it; book it.
The best single day in the Dominican Republic.
The catamaran stops at a natural shallow-water sandbar pool — waist-deep Caribbean water, flat as glass, with hundreds of starfish on the bottom. You can walk 50 meters from the boat. Most people spend 45 minutes here and never want to leave.
Depart your resort at 7:30am. Resort vans transfer to Bayahibe Harbor (90 min). Catamaran departs at 9:30am. Open bar starts on the boat. Wear reef-safe sunscreen — required in the national park.
Mano Juan village on Saona — a 2km national park beach with no development, wild coconut palms, and water that shifts from turquoise to cobalt. Buffet lunch served on the beach (usually included). A few dozen residents still live in Mano Juan; the village is worth a 20-minute walk.
The return is by speedboat — 40 minutes across open Caribbean water. You will be back at your resort by 5:30pm.
