Day 2 — Cenote Excursion

This is the best day you will have in Cancún. The cenote network of the Yucatán Peninsula is one of the natural wonders of the world — freshwater sinkholes connected by underwater cave systems, some open-air and some in darkness, with extraordinary clarity. Book a small-group tour (not a massive bus tour) to a combo of two to three cenotes: typically one open-air, one semi-open, and one swim-through cave.

Cenote Combo: Dos Ojos + Cenote Azul

Dos Ojos (Two Eyes) is the most famous cenote dive site in the Yucatán — two connected sinkholes with a swim-through cave system, crystal clear water, and geological formations that look unreal. Cenote Azul is a large open-air cenote about 45 minutes from Cancún with deep blue water and a rope swing. Small-group tours from the Hotel Zone run $80–120 per person and include transport, guide, equipment, and usually a Mayan ruins stop at the Cobá ruins en route. Book at least 2 days in advance.

Day 3 — Beach, Private Catamaran, Departure

Final day. The private catamaran charter is the luxury capstone — two to four hours on the water with a crew, snorkeling, open bar, fresh ceviche on board. Most all-inclusives have partnerships or can arrange it. Otherwise, beach morning + a sunset walk in Puerto Morelos (charming beach town 20 minutes south) before heading to the airport.

Private Catamaran Charter

A 3-hour private catamaran for two runs $300–450 through the hotel concierge or independent operators. Includes snorkeling gear, crew, cooler with drinks, and typically a ceviche spread. The views of the Hotel Zone from the water are excellent. Snorkeling at the reef just offshore is better than any beach-based excursion. This is the thing to do on a final morning before an afternoon flight.
