Four days — Jungle Island, Vizcaya museum, the beach, and Little Havana — Miami's cultural highlights with kids in tow.
Morning flight, beach by noon. Miami South Beach is overwhelming in the best way on day 1 — let the kids run in the waves while you adjust to the heat.
I-95 and I-395 are brutal in rush hour (7–9 AM and 4–7 PM). Avoid driving across Miami during those windows. The Brickell City Centre has the best parking garage in downtown. Uber between South Beach and Brickell takes 20 min outside rush hour, 45+ min during it.
Historic Art Deco hotel with a massive pool deck and direct beach access. Family-friendly without being a resort complex. Rates $180–300/night in season. Walk to the beach, the restaurants, and the Art Deco sites.
One of the best science museums in the Southeast — the aquarium section has a 500,000 gallon tank with sharks and rays you can look up at from below. The planetarium shows are excellent for any age. Budget a full morning. $30/adult, $22/child.
Cuban diner on Collins Ave — the 24-hour classic that's been feeding South Beach since 1962. Fried plantains, Cuban sandwiches, and café con leche at a laminate counter. Cheap and exactly what it should be.

A 1916 Italian Renaissance estate on Biscayne Bay built by industrialist James Deering — like a European villa dropped into Coconut Grove. The gardens are exceptional; the indoor rooms are overwrought in a fun way. Kids enjoy the formal garden maze and the barge on the bay. $26/adult, $10/child.
South Beach is narrow — you're never more than a 10-minute walk from the beach on one side and the bay on the other. Collins, Washington, and Alton are the three main north-south roads. Lincoln Road (pedestrian mall) is the main cross street worth knowing.
The Wynwood Walls are free and visually exciting for kids — the scale of the murals is impressive. Walk the surrounding blocks to see more. Wynwood Parlor next to the Walls does good ice cream.
