Day one at Dollywood — coasters, shows, and Aunt Granny's buffet. Day two on the mountain coasters and through the Old Mill District. The complete Pigeon Forge family formula.
Dollywood is best on weekdays and early-season (April–May). Summer weekends pack out fast. Buy tickets online to skip the gate line — they cost the same but save 20 minutes.
Dollywood's signature coaster — the world's fastest wooden roller coaster, with a launch start instead of a chain lift. Hits 73 mph through a series of tight turns and airtime hills. Lines stay long all day; ride at park open or check the app for short waits. Located in Timber Canyon.
Dollywood's flagship all-you-can-eat buffet — Southern cooking done properly. Fried chicken, cornbread, mac and cheese, banana pudding. Lines build after noon; go before 11:30am or after 1:30pm. Worth every dollar of the ~ admission.
Wildwood Grove is Dollywood's immersive kids area — themed around a firefly forest with smaller rides, splash pads, and climbing structures. FireChaser Express is the family-friendly launched coaster on the edge of the grove — good for mixed ages (minimum 39 inches).
Dollywood's live entertainment is genuinely good — country, bluegrass, and gospel acts run on multiple stages throughout the day. The Celebrity Theatre show at closing is the biggest production. Check the day's schedule when you arrive and plan around one evening performance.
Dollywood opens at 10am most days. The roller coasters are in the back of the park (Wildwood Grove and Country Fair areas). Go there first — lines double by noon. Lightning Rod, Wild Eagle, and Thunderhead are the three signature coasters. Do them in that order before lunch.
Day two skips the strip traffic entirely. Mountain coasters in the morning, Old Mill District in the afternoon.
The best mountain coaster in the Smokies area — a gravity-fed sled track that winds 4,400 feet down a mountain with banked turns and speed dips. You control the brake. Go in the morning before lines build. Located at the top of the ski area on the edge of Pigeon Forge.
Right on Old Mill Square — the most authentic sit-down meal in Pigeon Forge. Corn chowder, country ham, pinto beans, and cornbread. Lunch lines move fast. The grits are made from the mill next door.
A 15-minute drive into Gatlinburg for the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in North America — 680 feet long, 500 feet above the ground. The views of the Smokies from mid-bridge are exceptional. Buy tickets online; they sell out on peak days. Best at golden hour.
