Six days covering San José's art scene, Cabo Pulmo, a mezcal distillery tour, the Todos Santos art colony, and dinner at every great restaurant on the corridor.
Arrive Thursday so you can hit the Art Walk tonight. Get to your hotel, drop bags, and walk the gallery district by 5 PM. The evening is the best free experience in San José.
Los Cabos International has two terminals — Terminal 1 (domestic, Aeromexico, Interjet) and Terminal 2 (international). They're connected by a free shuttle. The airport is modern and functional. The duty-free tequila prices are actually competitive.
Stay here for the week. The rooftop pool, underground music venue, and art collection make it the right base for a cultural itinerary. Rates $250–400/night. Book direct for a better room.
Sip Baja is a local spirits education company that runs distillery visits and mezcal tasting seminars in downtown San José. The 2-hour session covers production from agave field to bottle. $70–90/person. Book ahead.
Todos Santos is a 90-minute drive north on Hwy 19 — a UNESCO Creative City with better galleries than San José, Hotel California (yes, that one, though the Eagle song's connection is disputed), and a strong surf scene on the Pacific. Worth a full day.
San José downtown is walkable but Todos Santos and Cabo Pulmo require wheels. Renting a car for 2–3 days of your trip is more practical than relying on tours. Rates are reasonable — $40–60/day for a standard car. Book in advance in high season.
The national marine park is the ecological highlight of the whole Baja trip. The coral reef here is one of North America's best — healthier than anything in Florida or the Caribbean mainland. Book a guided snorkel tour; the boat captains know the best spots.
Book a morning cooking class (see the family itinerary for details on Flavors of Baja), then spend the afternoon at the organic market if it's Saturday or just wandering the gallery district again.
The most serious Mexican food in the Los Cabos corridor — wood-fired cooking, masa made in-house, and a regional menu that changes seasonally. The mole negro is worth building the night around. Reserve in advance.
Last morning: coffee from a café on the plaza, then walk 20 minutes to Pueblo La Playa to watch the fishing boats come in. Airport is literally 10 minutes away — you can stay until almost noon with a midday flight.
