Two days focused on the art district, a private cooking class, farm-to-table dinners, and the quieter side of Baja that Cabo tourists miss.
San José rewards decompression. No agenda for the first afternoon — walk the plaza, have a mezcal, watch the town operate at its own pace. Dinner at a real restaurant, not a resort buffet.
Japanese-Peruvian fusion with a Baja twist — the tuna tiradito with habanero leche de tigre is the best thing on the menu. Intimate space, strong cocktail list. Make a reservation — it holds maybe 30 people.
The downtown art district is fully walkable. For the estuary and hotel zone beach, it's a 20-minute walk or $5 Uber. For Jazamango, use Uber (~$15 each way). Taxis are plentiful but negotiate before you get in.
Boutique hotel with a rooftop pool, recording studio, and serious art collection. The rooms are design-forward without being precious. Underground gallery hosts live music some nights. Rates run $250–400/night depending on season.
Private cooking class in the morning, estuary walk in the afternoon, and a rooftop dinner to close. The sunset from El Ganzo's rooftop pool is genuinely better than anything in Cabo proper.
Several local chefs offer small-group or private classes focused on Baja cuisine — fish tacos from scratch, agua chile, and handmade tortillas. Typically 3–4 hours including eating the results. ~$120–150/person. Book through the hotel concierge or directly with Flavors of Baja.
Javier Plascencia's flagship is worth making the Uber trip for dinner. The tasting menu changes with what the farm is producing. Make a reservation 2–3 days in advance in high season. Budget $100–150/person with wine.
The estuary boardwalk is free and takes about 45 minutes to walk the main loop. The light in the last hour before sunset is excellent for photography. Bring bug spray in summer — the estuary earns it.
The famous Thursday Art Walk only runs November through June, roughly 5–9 PM. Outside those months the galleries are still open but without the event energy. Plan accordingly if your trip is in July–October.
